The actor celebrated for his role in “Star Trek” died Friday at his home in Los Angeles.

 The American actor Leonard Nimoy, who was known for Dr. Spock character in “Star Trek” series, died today at his home in Bel Air, at age 83.

Susan Bay Nimoy, woman actor, said the death was due to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that the actor was suffering.

Leonard Nimoy was born in Boston, where he was born in March 1931. He was the second son of Ukrainian immigrants and his father was a barber. Began acting in small theater productions at age eight and at the end of the 40′s was to try his luck in Hollywood, but only managed a succession of small roles.

For him, fame came on the small screen when in 1966 was chosen to play the first official starship Enterprise in the new series “Star Trek” created by Gene Roddenberry.
