Amy Winehouse immortalized in Camden Market in London – Observer

Amy Winehouse will remain for posterity, in the neighborhood where he lived and died. A bronze statue of the singer Back to Black will be erected at the famous Camden market in north London. The tribute will be revealed on 14 September, the day that Winehouse would complete 31 years -. Star passed away in late July 2011, aged 27, in her own house

The memorial, in real size , was designed by Scott Eaton and received the contribution of the mother and brother of Amy, as well as close friends. The statue will represent the distinctive hairstyle of the late star, among other details, but also provide information in favor of donations to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which created the family after the death of the artist with the objective of removing youth from drugs and alcohol.

A bronze figure will then occupy the center of the Stables Market, within walking distance of the last home in life, the singer jazz and blues . At the Guardian, Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, said this was the most appropriate place for this purpose. “I had a meeting with the Chamber of Camden and they told me they usually do not accept statues until 20 years after the death of someone, but in the case of Amy made an exception.”

To Mitch Winehouse is “a great honor” that the market receive the statue of the person who was (and is) “an integral part of Camden.” Nevertheless, a first approach was thought to put the memorial playhouse in Camden Roundhouse. But in the name of accessibility, the market came out the winner. Also weighed in the balance the fact that the new location to bring good memories of the singer and hence away, the home where Amy died, which still gets fans and their distinct honors.

The father of the singer described the inauguration of the statue as a bittersweet moment:. “Of course it is a double-edged sword, because it does not put statues of people who are still among us”

This is not the first tribute to Amy Winehouse and unlikely to be the last, given by one London area. Last year, a whole month of events was dedicated to the singer as well as an exhibition of 10 weeks, entitled Amy Winehouse:. A family portrait, that invaded the Jewish Museum
