Lisbon airport is renamed, Humberto Delgado – Sun

From this Sunday, the Lisbon airport is renamed, Humberto Delgado, a tribute to one of the biggest opponents of the Salazar regime.

A symbolic date since it also marks the birth ‘General Fearless’ who founded TAP.

the Prime Minister, António Costa, and the President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, spoke at the ceremony to mark the award of this new designation, which still had the presence of relatives of Humberto Delgado.

the award of the general name for the airport in the capital was approved by the Cabinet in February, following a proposal made by the city of Lisbon when Antonio Costa was still mayor, reads the Lusa.

Humberto Delgado was born on May 15, 1906 in Boquilobo (Torres Novas). He was murdered on 13 February 1965, by a brigade of the PIDE, and is buried in the National Pantheon.
