Auctioned guitar John Lennon – Swab

A guitar that came to be used by John Lennon while recording the theme ‘Paperback Writer ‘, which is part of the album “Revolver”, will be auctioned in London Meridien hotel at 23 November.

Gretsch 6120 was delivered by the singer to his cousin David Birch, who had intentions to form their own band. David admits to being “cheeky” when asked Lennon guitar in November 1967, 18 months after the group recorded the hit single at the famous Abbey Road studio in London. “I had the nerve to ask John one of his guitars booking. Was counting on a Fender Stratocaster that was blue in the studio, but John suggested Gretsch and gave it to me, “Birch revealed, in an interview with Telegraph .

Birch’s mother, Harriet, was the younger sister of the mother of John Lennon, Julia. The two came to be neighbors.

The musical instrument is considered “one of the most significant guitars” which reached the market in the last 30 years and could be worth more than 765,000 euros. Also part of the package more than 100 lots of Beatles merchandise, including a signed copy of “Sgt. Pepper” and used by Rod Davis on banjo Lennon original group, the Quarrymen.

Registration for the auction of the guitar, which was part of the collection of Lennon, begin November 14 and end on November 23.
