The operator of PT Portugal and Sport TV decided to extend the period of negotiations for the renewal of the content distribution agreement. The Meo guarantees “that at no time jeopardized access to the Sport TV channels by customers.”
The underwriters of Sport TV through Meo operator will not lose access to channels, at least for now. After long hours of talks, which ended late in the evening of Monday, 31 August, when it ended the Sport TV contract in place with the Meo, the companies have agreed to extend the period of negotiations.
In Business, the Meo added that “continues to work in conjunction with Sport TV, as it has always done, in the current renegotiation of the project agreement in place.” And assures, “that at no time jeopardized access to Sport TV channels by customers,” added the official source provider that was acquired by Altice on June 2.
An official source of Sport TV administration also confirms that “the negotiation process between Sport TV and Meo operator continues to ensure the service to all Meo customers and ensure that all cable TV operators maintain the same level playing field” .
At issue is the proposal presented by the sports channel to all operators for contract renewal. Vodafone, In and Cabovisão accepted the terms proposed by Sport TV. But Meo not.
In view of this refusal the operator led by Armando Pereira, Sport TV will have come to equate turn off the signal that platform, as the Express reported. If it decided to proceed with this measure, about 180 000 subscribers of sports channels through Meo would be without access to the contents of the five channels provided by Sport TV.
An official source Vodafone confirmed to Business that “has renewed the agreement with Sport TV”, not speaking out, however, “on the amount involved.” Vodafone “ensure, however, that the Vodafone TV service customers will continue to have access to Sport TV channels by the same values in force here.”
