Lisboa celebrates the first edition of the Chinese Film Festival, as a result of a new collaboration cultural and cinematic level between the two countries and that next year will give way to a party of Portuguese Cinema in China.
And it will be at Cinema Ideal, with the premiere of If The Afestam Mountains (Mountains May Depart), the latest film from director Jia Zhang-ke, the festival will start on 10 September in the presence of a Official delegation of officials from the cinema in China and in particular the Chinese Cinematheque and Xiao Xiang Film Group.
First the Ideal Cinema (10-16), with twelve contemporary films – which also includes the premiere of the latest film by Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Award Best Cannes realization 2015 (Point of No Return ) and films of great directors like Lou Ye, Ann Hui and Tsui Hark as well as six films produced by Xiaoxiang Film Group, one of the most important studios in China is engaged for the production, such as distribution and exhibition, among which is for example possible to see the film Dragon Inn Raymond Lee and Tsui Hark, starring Maggie Cheung.
After the Portuguese Cinematheque (17-30), with a program of twenty classic films entitled “Chinese Film: Historical Background and Retrospective Xie Jin,” the Chinese and Chinese expression film will have a great public celebration in Portugal, in what will be the first major event of the film rentrée.
In the program of the Portuguese Cinematheque looking to trace a historical overview with films made between 1933 and 1997, illustrating that way four major steps of the Chinese film industry, with representative films of each of these times: the movie Previous to 1949 Shanghai, the post-1949 Chinese film and before the Cultural Revolution, the so-called “fifth-generation” and the transition from the “fifth” and “sixth generation”. On the other hand, dedicated a retrospective to Xie Jin, one of the largest Chinese filmmakers, whose work has been recognized before and after the Cultural Revolution.
Initiative of the Portuguese Film and the Chinese Film Library, with the support of ICA-Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual, Portugal, and the Department of Cinema of SAPPRFT (State of Directors of the Press, Publication, Radio , Cinema and China Television), and the Chinese Embassy in Portugal and the Embassy of Portugal in China, the Feast of Chinese Cinema, falls within the 10th anniversary of the establishment of strategic partnership between China and Portugal and takes place following the official visit to China by Secretary of State for Portuguese Culture, Jorgr Barreto Xavier, in November 2014, and will be presided by himself and by the Ambassador of the PRC in Portugal.
In addition to an extensive overview of the history of Chinese Cinema and its latest productions – both internationally established directors such as large blockbusters in China – the festival seeks to promote the film exchange through dialogue between officials, managers and practitioners of Chinese and Portuguese cinemas and make known in China the rich film heritage and culture of Portugal. At a time when relations between the two countries develop, this event reveals the Chinese and Portuguese efforts to reach a new stage in the deepening of mutual understanding.
The festival has the support of various public and private entities, including the RTP Radio and Television of Portugal, Lisbon City Hall, and Hotel Tivoli.
