The awards directed to classical music record industry are awarded annually by the British magazine Gramophone by industry members voting and critics jury that distinguished the Portuguese pianist in the category Concert.
In all the Awards have 12 categories and Artist of the Year is voted online by the public.
Maria João Pires recorded the album with the Symphony Orchestra of the Swedish Radio, under the direction of British conductor Daniel Harding, and was the first release of pianist on Onyx Classics label, which he joined in 2013.
The 70 year old pianist ended on that date the contract with Deutsche Grammophon, where he was since 1989.
In 2015, Maria João Pires will serve, among other orchestras, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Concertgebouw Orkest, Boston Symphony, Deutsche Staatsoper Orchester Berlin, Orchestre National de Lille, Lucerne Symphony, London Chamber Orchestra, National España Orchestra, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
Maria João Pires gave his first public recital in 1948, studied with Campos Coelho and Francine Benoit, pursuing studies in Germany with Rosl Schmid and Karl Engel.
Since 1970 dedicated to reflection on the importance of art in the community and education, seeking to develop new ways to implement pedagogical theories in society.
