Agustina Bessa-Luís wins plate in Port
92-year writer’s daughter says her mother is still happy.

Thousands of people filled the streets on Saturday from Crystal Palace Gardens, Porto, where since Friday due to the Book Fair. The good weather that was felt in Invicta attracted many families on a day marked by the honor of Agustina Bessa-Luís. An evocative plate was placed next to a tree, with the name and the writer’s words.
“It is gratifying to see that the Port remember it and still have it in the heart,” said her daughter, Monica Baldaque, who represented the author of more than fifty titles. During the ceremony – which featured the presence of Rui Moreira, mayor of Porto – the audience wanted to know if, at age 92, Agustina Bessa-Luís still writes. “The ‘Wheel of Night’ was the last work but continues to laugh” he said, noting that even without writing the mother still happy.
The event has attracted Visitors from all over the country. “There are more and more such events in Porto and this makes it the most interesting city,” he told CM Andreia Oliveira, who lives in Lisbon.
