He died Johan Cruyff – Johan Cruyff, great star of Dutch football, died on Thursday, aged 68. Winner of the Ballon d’Or on three occasions (1971, 1973 and 1974), the former player and coach had revealed last October that was fighting lung cancer.
Death was now announced in a statement: “Johan Cruyff died peacefully in Barcelona, surrounded by his family, after great fight against cancer. It is with great sadness that we are asked to respect the family’s privacy during this time of grief. ”
Cruyff was born in Amsterdam on April 25, 1947, highlighting the service of the Ajax club he represented between 1964 and 1973. He was transferred to Barcelona, club which was also coach and where he received the title of honorary president in 2010.
Represented the Dutch national team on 48 occasions, scoring 33 goals.
