The Portway will proceed with the collective dismissal of 257 workers following the end of the provision of ground handling services (assistance at airports) to the airline Ryanair in Faro, Lisbon and Porto.
In a press conference, the president of Portway, Jorge Ponce de Leon, said that will be given to workers the opportunity to continue working in the company but in part-time and that was also signed an agreement with Ryanair that these employees have priority in entering the Irish company.
According to him, for the purpose of providing support services to flights from the Portway to Ryanair, which represented about 30% of the activity of that company owned by ANA – Airports of Portugal, was estimated need to eliminate 210 jobs. The company considers job a full working hours, which makes the 257 full-time workers and part-time corresponding to 210 jobs, since there are many employees with partial contracts.
Ponce de Leon said that if some of the targeted workers accept collective redundancies stay in Portway with partial agreements, the number of deleted jobs will be less.
Currently, the company estimates that of the 257 workers who will receive the letter of dismissal accept 94 be part-time, being effectively firing target 163.
Workers covered by this process are those with higher pay and more time at the company, with the president of Portway to justify the choice of this way can secure the sustainability of the company, whether financial or in number of employees.
“We could not jeopardize the sustainability of a company with more than two thousand workers and the process was designed so – a process that was inevitable – reduce the number of people affected and to ensure income available more or less similar, “he said.
According to the Portway, at Faro airport are concerned 26 full-time employees and 28 part-time (40 jobs), Lisbon 61 full time and 20 part (71 jobs) and Porto 76 full time and 46 part-time workers (99 partial jobs).
The Portway will no longer provide services to Ryanair in late March at Faro airport in June in Oporto and in October at Lisbon airport.
