Mila Kunis joined to the women who denounce the sexism experienced by the actresses in Hollywood and confessed that he already felt insulted for being a woman.
In an open letter published on the website of her husband, also actor Ashton Kutcher, the actress recalls the confrontation that he had with a producer during the promotion of a film in which he participated.
It’s a cliché, sure, but a producer threatened me when I refused to pose semi-nude for the cover of a men’s magazine to promote our film. She was not willing to this commitment, naive to what it had been willing. ‘Never more will I work in this city?’ I was livid, I felt objetificada, and for the first time in my life said ‘no’. And guess what? The world has not ended. The movie made a lot of money and I went back to work in this town again, again and again, and again. What this producer never will understand is that he gave voice to the fear that all women feel when confronted with your gender in the workplace”.
The actress writes that women are “bound to believe” that if they “speak”, their “livelihoods will be threatened”. “We don’t want to be tossed out of the sandbox for being goats. So, compromise our integrity to keep our status quo, and expect the change to happen”.
But the change is not coming fast enough to help my friends, my colleagues, or our daughters”.
Mila Kunis adds that in the course of his career he had moments when you felt “insulted, marginalized, underpaid, ignored, creatively and diminished” for being a woman, and even be considered a “mega star” for being to marry “one of the greatest actors of Hollywood.
It has reduced my worth to nothing more than my relationship with a man of success and my ability to carry children. He ignored my creativity, and contribution to the logistics”.
The actress believes that if this happens it means that is happening “more aggressively to women everywhere”.
I Am a lucky girl because I got to a level where I can stop for me to commit and put down the foot without fear of how am I going to put food on the table. I am also fortunate to have a platform where I can talk about my experience with the hope to be a voice for women to feel less alone in their workplace and more able to fight for them”, ends Mila Kunis.
The letter was shared by Ashton Kutcher on his Facebook professional and, up to now, already had more than 11 thousand shares. In the message that accompanies the text, the actor shows himself to be proud of the woman “by mark a position”.
The effort to overcome the gender differences is a battle in which we all have a role to play”, he also said.
