“Freedom for Palestine” and “Avilez collaborates with the occupation by the zionist” are two of the phrases from the posters pasted on the façade
the facade of The restaurant Cantinho do Avillez, in Porto, was vandalised on Friday, because of the participation of the chef José Avillez at a food festival in Israel, advanced today the newspaper the israelite The Times of Israel.
according To the newspaper, the attack will be seen as responsible activists of the global movement BDS (Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions) against Israel. The facade of the restaurant was painted with red paint and on it were pasted into roles in which they can read phrases such as “Freedom for Palestine”, “Avillez collaborates with the occupation zionist” and “Inbound: a dose of white phosphorus”.
Lusa tried to contact the chef José Avillez, but until now was not possible.
The blog Portuguese solidarity with Palestine “Palestine Wins” refers, in a publication dated 10 November that “activists against the regime of the israeli occupation and apartheid launched an appeal [by letter] to the chef of Portuguese cuisine-José Avillez, the owner of the restaurant Belcanto in Lisbon, for this to annul its participation in the culinary event in tel Aviv titled Round Tables”.
according To that blog, this appeal is part of an international protest “that brought together over 140 human rights organizations against the participation in the event of a restaurants ‘gourmet’, among which L Ami Jean in Paris, and the Musket Room in New York city”.
The Round Tables, taking place from six of November and ends on the 26th, referred to in the blog, is part of a campaign the israeli “Brand Israel”, “that aims to whiten the violent oppression of the palestinian people”.
The appeal of chef José Avillez has been signed by the Association April, the Collective Mumia Abu-Jamal, the Committee of Solidarity with Palestine, the Council of the Portuguese for Peace and Cooperation, the Group Action Palestine, the MPPM – Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East, the Panthers Pink – Front of Combating Lesbigaytransfobia and SOS Racism.
The vice-president of the World Jewish Congress, quoted by The Times of Israel, condemned the attack of the movement, BDS, which are said to be anti-semitic.
“The movement BDS showed his face. Have not proven to be more than a group of vandals. This was an act of anti-semitism. Attack, a chef‘ in Portugal only because he participated in a festival in tel Aviv is negligible. These self-advocates of Human Rights are exactly the opposite: to spread hatred, not human rights,” said Robert Singer, in a statement released on Saturday.
