We already knew that we would see Howe Gelb, distinguished singer of the music of the american frontier, or Kevin Morby, the new representative of the songs of an America without borders. We had marked on the calendar the concert of this historic combo of hip hop jazzificado called track for track digable Planets, the feast and dance of Jagwar Ma, the presence of the sweet songs of Mallu Magalhães, the pop solar of the Whitney, or the voice of conscience hip hop provided in Talib Kweli. We already knew that all they would mark presence in the Vodafone Mexefest – and that, unfortunately, the soulman Charles Bradley, prevented by the treatment of a cancer, out obliged to cancel the trip. Now, we know all the rest.
In a press conference this Thursday, were revealed the remaining names on the poster. A veritable armada episodes in the most diverse genres. A mosaic that, if doubts there were, proves how exciting is the gift of music created in Portugal. The expressiveness out of this world, Lula Pena to the voice and the accordion of Celina da Piedade, the pop light Filipe Sambado the songs are pristine of Louis the Severe, of the eternal travelers Medeiros/Lucas to the teeming work on the music of the PALOP made by Celeste/Mariposa, the psicadelismo environmental Acid Acid to hip hop idiosyncratic of PZ or the homage to Dina starred by names such as Ana Bacalhau, B Facade, Marcia, Mitó or D’alva, among others, very there to choose from – this without forgetting that, in the poster, we had already Mayra Andrade, Octa Push, Bruno Leg, Joana Barra Vaz, or the meeting between Mike El Nite and Nerve.
The festival, which occupies, in Lisbon, the whole of the Avenida da Liberdade and the surrounding areas has its edition in 2016 on the 25th and 26th of November, and already you know the frantic routine. Avenue above the boulevard below, to go to the meeting of several concerts in the historic rooms, such as the Coliseu dos Recreios or Cinema São Jorge, in emblematic spaces, such as the Casa do Alentejo, or spaces first received as unexpected but, at the end of several editions, already belong to the "house" Vodafone Mexefest, such as the plaza of the Rossio Railway Station or the beautiful Society of Geography of Lisbon. Strengthening of weight of this edition will be the inclusion of the Cine-Teatro Capitol in the script of the festival.
The historic room in the Mayer Park, inaugurated in 1931, and in the works of recovery since 2009, will reopen its doors to receive, on its stage, the noble, Large Professor & Diamond D, Talib Kweli and Mike El Nite & Nerve, day 25, and Mayra Andrade and La Dame Blanche, day 26. But not only: there will also be a stage set up behind the scenes, and another on the terrace. There will be another novelty to find out, this in the Tivoli Theatre. Behind the area of the projection, in a space where it was preserved all the original material from the theatre, we will discover the stage Loft of the theatre – there we will see the Brothers Makossa, 26 and, on the previous day, Pedro Coquenão, the man behind the Beat, present the show "The Projeccionistas".
The Vodafone Mexefest is a festival that cherishes the diversity of pulsar contemporary musical not mass-produced and that he was born with the ambition of making the whole historical area of lisbon that occupies a character that is, in the eyes of the public, as important as the music that it heard. For this reason, the organization has revealed all the years the desire to surprise the viewers, the optimal way to preserve a place and a moment in memory. This manifests itself, for example, we have regular concerts in the interior of the bus that transports the viewers through the Avenue of Freedom (day 25, the band movement will be the Fugly; day 26, the 800 Gondomar). And will manifest itself this year, for the first time, in other ways. One of them will be the appearance, to the sound of the Cuckoo, as in the watches of past ages, a musician, a surprise for a concert in the central porch of the Coliseu dos Recreios, open to the Rua das Portas de Santo Antão. The other two arriv e imported from the Vodafone Paredes de Coura. We talked of the Concerts in Surprise and Voices in Writing. The first two are precisely what the name indicates: in the course of each one of the days of the festival will be announced a concert whose protagonist, the time and the respective location will be up to then kept secret. The second puts men and women whose craft are the words of the work to the public, such as in salon, about the lyrics of songs, poetry, prose, anyway, to understand. In Paredes de Coura the protagonists are by habit writers. In Mexefest, this role will be up to those musicians Carlão, Mike El Nite, Fuse and The Chick.
tickets for the Mexefest have the single price of 45 euros. In the days 25 and 26 November, will cost 50 euros.
