albums “the World”, from Mariza, and “Fados do fado”, by Marco Rodrigues are nominated in different categories at the 17.Th edition of the Grammy awards Latin.
The two interpreters have already been named in previous editions, Mariza from the album “Earth” (2008), produced by Javier Limón, which also produced “the World”, and Marco Rodrigues participated in the album “El alma del son – Tribute to Matamoros”, of the cuban Alain Pérez, who was appointed last year.
“the World” was released in October of last year, and marked the return of Mariza to the studio, five years after “Fado traditional”, and is nominated in the category “Best Contemporary Pop Album in the Portuguese Language”.
“the World” has compositions by Mário Pacheco, Rui Veloso, Tiago Machado, Jorge Fernando and Paulo de Carvalho, musicians who collaborated with Mariza on previous albums, and poems, among others, Rosa Lobato de Faria, Cabral do Nascimento, and Paulo Abreu Lima.
The interpreter, which for the first time writes in Spanish, retrieves a theme of the argentine, “Capricious”, of authorship of Froilán Aguilar, and sings, Javier Limón, “Soul”, and he also recorded the two themes of the repertoire of Amália Rodrigues, “Anda o sol na minha rua” and “Curse”.
With the album of Mariza compete “Tropix” Heaven, “Troco likes”, by Tiago Iorc, the “conquered Territory”, – Larissa Light, and “Light away,” Thiago Ramil.
The album of Marco Rodrigues is nominated in the category of “Best Album of Folk Music”, in which he competes with “En las Islas Canarias”, the Group Mapeyé, “Rotates” Los Huayra “En armonías colombian”, Palo Crosses”, and “Spring”, from Nahuel Pennisi.
“Fados do fado” was produced by Diogo Clemente — who has worked, for example, with Mariza or Raquel Tavares-, and is a tribute to the men of fado — the who sang the fado, yes, but also to the composed and the composer gave the word to fate, explained the singer to the Lusa news agency.
“Oh if my eyes could talk”, “Trigueirinha”, “Windstorm” or “Rosinha dos limões”, are some of the classic popularized by Tristão da Silva, Max, or Tony de Matos, among others, that Marco Rodrigues recreated on this CD released in July of last year.
Marco Rodrigues won the Great Night of the Fado in 1999, and received the Revelation Prize Amália Rodrigues in 2007.
In statements to Lusa, Marco Rodrigues said that, “after you have recorded three albums of original”, he understood that “it was time to pay homage to the legacy of some men, and mostly men, because women have had this gender a major role”.
For the singer, this CD aims to “revive the memory of some and give to know the other excellent topics, that are part of the enormous legacy heritage singer”.
The winners will be announced on the 17th day of November next, in a ceremony to be held in the Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, in the United States.
