“Florence Foster Jenkins” (Florence, A Diva Old Tom) by Hugo Gomes – c7nema

Florence1

Florence, A Diva Off Tom focuses on the story of an aristocrat who dreams of starring in an opera. A dream that could be easily met if it did not have the most “ inaudible voices ” … wait … there am I living a déjà vu! This story had not been adapted last year? But ultimately what is going on here?

This is not no memory of past lives, but rather, the US response to Marguerite , a French film by Xavier Giannoli which featured Catherine Frot as a music aficionado who suffers from a great evil … is tuneless “ the sick and for singing .” But this “ little ” major defect is hidden from the protagonist. As? With staged concerts, forged opinions and dedication “ martirologica ” of her husband. But none of this prevented Marguerite Dumont (reference to actress Margaret Dumont, who constantly contracenava with Groucho brothers) fulfilled their intimate “ Fantasy ” to be a “ Angel ” in stage.

Marguerite [the film] was a success, either financial or artistic, managing to pierce his anecdotal idea for a portrait on black art as a display object. Passed through some obvious and incursions of Sunset Boulevard ( The Twilight of the Gods ), Billy Wilder. However, I must go no further, because this is the critique of another film. Yes, the Florence, Diva Off Tom , the likely bet for the twenty-appointment to the Oscar for Meryl Streep (and because the Academy loves daring, obvious irony for those who did not realize) is more a ‘ chore “Stephen Frears. The replicated story now retrofitted under the guise of true events.

Apparently there was actually a “ worst singer ever ” and it goes by the name of Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York heiress who managed, in the 40s, a show in the historic Carnegie Hall, even though as his great enemy a voice “ torturous .” Meryl Streep, as always, embodied in her character with determination and boldness (more than the film itself), but unfortunately it is in its composition that production Hollywood-failure in all directions. Florence is too “ angelic “, without Catherine Frot madness ounce and induced a semi-hagiógrafa frame. It is the problem of these biopics under constant winks at the Academy Awards, they tend to whiten overused its central personalities (to recall the failed portrait of Margaret Thatcher The Iron Lady again with Meryl Streep in the “ channel “).

Florence, A Diva Off Tom comes down to a product that failed to consolidate their musical note, trying to disperse the film immensity, but only acting out the same cinebiográfica formula. The tone, this is more anecdotal than Gallic cousin, looking at the story of Florence Foster Jenkins in a prolonged gag sitcom. The note also Hugh Grant in shape and Simon Helberg surprise a lot variation “ pee-wee .” The rest is pure detuning.

Some say que I Could Not sing, but no one can say I did not sing que

best – The trio of actors

The worst – biopic predictable formula, the anecdotal and mockingly attributed to history
