CFP against delivery of the Fort of Peniche, and the private – Diário de Notícias – Lisbon

CFP requires the “suspension of the tenders already launched, or the launch, the stopping of the sale of assets of the State”

THE CFP expressed in a statement against the intention of the socialist Government to lease about 30 historic buildings to the private sector, including the Fortress of Peniche, and advocated for a “National Program of Emergency aid to Cultural Heritage”.

“THE PCP rejects the program yesterday [Wednesday] announced. We demand the suspension of the tenders already launched, or the launch, the stopping of the sale of assets of the State, in particular the heritage listed and its delivery to managements of private, and the beginning of a wider debate on the cultural heritage, their recovery and use, which lead to the approval and implementation of a National Programme of Emergency for Cultural Heritage”, it reads.

In the text of the communist argues that “the politics of heritage may not be subject or subordinate to ‘the market’ and the tourism policy. Before, the policy for heritage must intensify the cultural link between the people and the heritage, to integrate the built heritage in the life and the daily life of the country, resulting in appreciation and preservation lived and fruída collectively”.

On the initiative of the executive António Costa sell, “for a period that can go up to 50 years, a set of monuments, cultural heritage,” ( … ) “to private groups to build your business, to the detriment of full enjoyment of the public,” the PCP states that the measure is “unacceptable”.

“For the symbolism that shuts down, we can’t stop to criticize so vehemently the fact that the Government have placed in this list is the Fortress of Peniche, ignoring the historical and cultural importance of a space where it is not possible to reconcile the hotel business and tourism with the need to preserve fully their characteristics and prison-historical”.

the leaders of The CFP refer to one of the prisons of the New State where you have managed to evade several militants, among them the historical secretary-general Álvaro Cunhal, playing one of the episodes, the most striking of the combat that the dictatorial regime.
