Vodafone Mexefest, day 2: Perfume and Shadows – Digital Journal

Second night on Avenida da Liberdade with Portuguese triumphs and confirmations in the scene of some of the good albums released this year. Perfume Genius is a phenomenon, Wild Beasts and Sharon Van Etten pleased in the shadows of the Colosseum

Night falls in Lisbon and the Saldanha road axis -. Rossio is a small traffic chaos punctuated by red lights of vehicles towards the Tagus River. This is how we know that come the first Saturday with christmas lights on Avenue paving the way to the tree of Terreiro do Paco and weekenders unforgiving, invasion to disrupt the arrival of festival-goers who have exhausted Vodafone Mexefest tickets.

So it was no great alternative we started marathon second night over, Montepio Room of Cinema São Jorge where Savanna made us forget the mess in the street with its well-drawn rock. Are more a national band in search of their space, will edit the debut album soon, but already have some followers that made up the room. Later also the Barcelense Nuno Rodrigues would shine here with the Duchess interesting project.

These are two examples of the vitality that the new music made in Portugal goes to show signs. The Vodafone Mexefest found between these new proposals a significant portion of its programming giving a personification of the spirit very wise Festival. There is an interaction between are new names in the scene and some well established that results in perfection and, of course, proves the interest and demand for the more motivated public to listen and find out what is being done by. This bet joins the criterion of selection of international names following the same convictions, projects that are highlighted in the record debut soon, bands with aesthetic still far from mainstream and some more obvious choices and public already faithful by. It is the year in which the Mexefest can say better in terms of identity itself the result of a path which is now in eight years.

Amazing concerts and popular support to the presence of James Iorc, Curtis Harding Cloud Nothings, Adult Jazz and Palma Violets. Not for the same reasons, of course.

The Brazilian Tiago Iorc had room full of the Lisbon Geographical Society and corresponded with its intimate music only accompanied by guitar and singing mainly in English. In addition to its repertoire visited the Los Hermanos compatriots, to the delight of the audience sitting and ‘Magic’ of Coldplay your way.

Outdoor in Rossio Station a ‘Soul Power’ breeze, Curtis Harding disc title that perfectly serves to illustrate its performance. Inevitable versions of classics from some documents that the musician from Atlanta paraded heating the night to an audience that did not prevent a dance feet. Return for a Aula Magna, asked on the path back to the Coliseum. We agree.

A lot of expectation to see the trio Cloud Nothings. Long lines to climb the steps to enter the Gymnasium Commercial Athenaeum of Lisbon. The bad acoustics of the space joins the raw power and distorted guitars of the authors of “Here and Nowhere Else”, one of the best rock albums of this year and turned into noise that which we can identify areas of studio work. Were here and saw but little could withdraw from the meeting unless very … noise.

As for the Violets Palma chose to transform the experience in the Rossio Station in a sonic massacre raising the decibel levels unsavory. We have not heard but told us what discouraged our return to space.

Leeds for the largest room in the Cinema São Jorge, the Manoel de Oliveira room, the Adult Jazz pleased with its much softer proposal , quiet with silence as a determining factor of their actions. Were a good appetizer for the immense Mike Adreas fans who have not left the cinema to secure your place for one of the most anticipated moments of the festival.

It was a wise choice as the queues to enter the St. Jorge as the time approached to see Perfume Genius were about. The “Too Bright” disk, published this year, brings the boy from Seattle to phenomenon called very public in this Festival. Nails and neatly painted red lips contrasting with the black of her clothes, delicacy, sensitivity with crisp musical arrangements transform Perfume Genius of music pieces of perfect soundtrack to a movie theater. One of the concerts that mark this edition of Mexefest.

The Colosseum of playgrounds were scheduled two biggest names for this second round. Sharon VanEtten bet almost everything new album, “Are We There,” and appeared in revised and increased relative to what we saw a while ago in Lux. Ready frail figure to give everything in your valuable voice to each theme, the wife of New Jersey coped well with a room filled with too expressive and fans to what is familiar.

The largest room of the event could have been this last night a space with chairs to give even more certain with the dark and gloomy environment chosen by the two poster names. A little less static that VanEtten, the Wild Beasts were the band that had the largest number of spectators proving the acceptance that we had witnessed in May in its passage through Rock in Rio. This public should not have been in the Bela Vista Park and so was keen to cherish all the songs of “Present Tense”, another 2014 disk and assimilated by an attentive audience.

loose Notes to the excellent performance of the Portuguese Sensible Soccers, an instrumental serious case onstage at Garage EPAL where also the jump took the opportunity to give another good concert, while in the Main Hall of the Athenaeum Throes + The Shine gained more a good followers and the hip hop of MGDRV showed that it is ready to burst, the single ‘Jump Only’ is gold.

Only Bristol, an invention of Marc Collin in line with the Nouvelle Vague to the Bristol scene, made us regret the time lost during the visit to the space where they touched. Forget this moment.

Mission accomplished a festival with its increasingly relevant space with a remarkable fulfillment of time, with a certain program criteria and that the public approves as seen by sellout.
