Four years after “Rome”, JP Simões decided to incorporate the changes that you felt in your life and in your music, with a new name, Bloom, which is not only related with the references in the literature, such as the character Leopold Bloom of James Joyce, or the “critical romantic” Harold Bloom, but with the “imperative to flourish”, he told Lusa news agency the musician, born in Coimbra.
“I was feeling a little redundant. I found that there was a lot that had changed, and with it, my life and my music,” he says.
The new project of JP Simões assumes these changes in the process of musical composition, in the texture that I wanted to give to the subjects, in the use of English and a deviation from a music markedly autonarrativa.
Bloom emerges in the sense of “flourish”, as “any thing to long for”, a name that gives motivation for the artist to “do justice” to his new alter ego, brings, considering that, with this work, moves away from things “urban” and related “trade of emotions” and, as a consequence, approaches of “spaces more earthquakes”.
the songs on The album were built at a time when “difficult” of the life of JP Simões, who sought to “re-create a world a bit better”, assuming the song as something that could illuminate, a space “where I could find some comfort and clarity”.
For the disk, the founding member of Belle Chase Hotel, and walked to drink from various sides, mainly on the guitars, blues and folk, with two names to mind: the british Nick Drake and the guitarist of the Delta blues Robert Johnson.
In the album of ten tracks, the relationship of the artist with the time is also very present, notably in the “Meeting Time”, where she sings “people come and go”.
The band was “was to be the name of the album”, but “Tremble like a Flower” just for you to seem like a “more beautiful” to talk about the “fragility”, “not only in space as in time.”
“I Hope that is a gathering of accounts and now you don’t have to spend the rest of my life talking about the time”, stresses JP Simões, the Portuguese.
According to the musician, this album is “less autonarrativo”, using the second and third persons, so as to achieve “a move away from the subject of the speech”, so as to put yourself in a place where you can see them.
Also in the arrangements, there are many changes with Bloom.
With the entry in the composition and production of Miguel Nicolau, of the Memory of Fish, JP Simões went to look with more attention to the sculpture, the architecture and the texture of the sound”, coming up “things that the music suggested” that, alone, “could not find”.
Miguel Nicolau “he changed the music even more and became even more distinct”. Expands to “way too intense, so luminous, and at the same time very electric”, when played live by the hand of the musicians who put the address the album.
Bloom comes up today on the stage of Lux, in Lisbon, at 22:30, for the concert of the release of the album, accompanied by Carlos Bica (double bass), Sérgio Costa (saxophone and flute), João Gomes (keyboards) and Marco Franco (drums).
on The 24th of march, Bloom acts in Aveiro, Teatro Aveirense.
in Addition to the project solo, that began with “the 1970s”, in 2007, JP Simões was a founding member of Belle Chase Hotel, and participated in the “Sex Symbol”, Pop Dell’arte, among other collaborations.
