Chiado and Gulbenkian filled to see Amadeo and Almada – Diário de Notícias – Lisbon

Thousands of people today saw in Lisbon two painting exhibitions of authors emblematic, yet that had to wait sometimes over two hours

On the day of free entries (first Sunday of each month in the national museums, and on Sunday afternoon at the Gulbenkian museum) there were hundreds people today waited up to two hours to see the exhibition of Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Chiado, Amadeo de Souza Cardoso/Porto-Lisbon/2016-1916.

“we Were waiting for a day like today. Because it is the Sunday free each month, and we anticipate and have already managed to receive all this people”, said to Lusa the director of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (Chiado Museum), Aida Rechena, between queues of people for the seven rooms that include the 81 works of Amadeo.

The fact that it is free has led many people to the Chiado, but according to the director “it has been like this success every day, replicating the success that the exhibition at the National Museum Soares dos Reis (Porto).

And so, he warned the person in charge, the parallel activities, such as guided tours by the curators (Raquel Henriques da Silva and Marta Soares), or the visits by the employees of the education service are filled.

Also to the Lusa one of the curators of the exhibition, Marta Soares, was keen to stress that the guided tours are sold out until the end of the exposure, so that people should not continue to connect. “We receive 300 calls per day,” he said.

Marta Soares explained that the conference (the next one is about the relationship between Souza-Cardoso and the French artist Robert Delaunay), and the visits are not exhausted, which is “completely sold out” of the guided tours.

No wonder, in the words of Aida Rechena: “since the 12th (of January) we have already exceeded 15 thousand visits. During the week we don’t have queues on the street, but we have within the Museum”. Still, it will not be possible to extend the exhibition (ends 26), “issues several, including the conditions of the loan of the works.”

Today, the only day free, a lot of people ended up going to Chiado and give up when you see the size of the queue, opting to “go see the shops”. Still others, in the afternoon dedicated to culture, opted to head to Lisbon, where he opened opened the exhibition José de Almada Negreiros: a way of being modern.

wouldn’t know, but they would be advised on arrival, that to see the exposure would have to count between 60 to 90 minutes of waiting in long queues. Has the advantage of being presented until June 5.

In the Gulbenkian also many have given up, as in Chiado, preferring to come back another day. There was the case of António Maques, a time of waiting to see for the second time an exhibition of the Amadeo de Sousa-Cardoso. “I like and have time to see it, would come up anyway but I took the opportunity to be free,” he told Lusa.

Neither of Gonçalo studies electroacoustic music, “almost two hours” of waiting, and that, yes, took for be free. And in the end was it worth it? Studies electroacoustic music responded with another art: “everything is worthwhile if the soul is not small” (Fernando Pessoa).

And it was for her, for art, that Rechena was now a director satisfied, because, after all, a Sunday is not only for football, and shopping centers.
