The world’s largest mosaic made with cork stoppers and portraying the writer José Saramago was now inscribed in the book of Guinness World Records, told Lusa source of the municipality of Ponte de Sor.
The book has more than three hundred thousand corks and was produced at the Center for Arts and Culture of Ponte de Sor, by Albanian artist Saimir Strati, who holds eight records in Guinness World Records.
“The goal was to beat the record, but the main thing was to contribute in any way to promote this increasingly endogenous wealth of our country is that the cork and that is so important in the sustainability of our region,” said the Mayor of Ponte de Sor, Hilary Hugo, told Lusa.
The mosaic was produced in the last thirty days, with a range of 24 meters long by 4.5 meters high, totaling 157 square meters.
The work mainly portrays an image of José Saramago, another image of Ponte de Sor and the symbolism of 7Sóis7Luas Festival.
“We’re having a very important day for Ponte de Sor and the most important thing is to feel even more attractive in the eyes of those who want to visit and invest in our county,” he said.
The work was classified today that Alentejo town by various personalities related to the book of records, including an official Guinness World Records judge who handed the certificate that testifies to the inscription on the international album of that institution .
This initiative developed by Saimir Strati had the support of 7Sóis7Luas Festival, cork manufacturing companies headquartered in Ponte de Sor and Regional Tourism Entity (ERT) Alentejo who joined this project under the application of the assembled Heritage.
The mosaic can be seen at the Center for Arts and Culture of Ponte de Sor.
