In the trials of the ModaLisboa fashion week – Public.en

A fashion show starts long before the lights go out at the scheduled time. There is a team behind the scenes that organizes castings, chooses the models, gives them guidelines. In 47.Th ModaLisboa fashion week, we have followed the trials of the parade collective New Blood (on the first day of the event at Pátio da Galé) and the designer Nuno Gama (in the open air, in the Praça do Império in Belém).

The first day of the parade only starts at 18h, but Luís Pereira, coordinator of the behind-the-scenes and casting director for 38 editions, walks through the corridors of the Patio da Gale since morning. Assign tasks to multiple people, set schedules, make-up and hair. The preparations began long before. "Marco the model agencies in portugal a month in advance, to see the new guys. Only after the beginning of the treat of the mannequins international. The agencies are presented in the proposals and, a week before the ModaLisboa fashion week begin, send the casting [the models chosen] to the designers," he explains to the PUBLIC between model testing, testing of light and sound.

in This edition of ModaLisboa there are around 90 models – 60 national and the other international. “We do not have the ability to have a casting for each designer. I choose in general, and then divided depending on the designer. If it is younger, if not, the style of each dummy to each designer,” he explains.

it is Not mandatory to do a test before each parade, but they are always before the presentation of the new talent because “they’re models”. In the remaining parades “just show the catwalk to all, for the most part is to walk through the center, with stop or without stop. When a designer wants something more special to do the test before the parade,” he explains. It was the case of the parade of Nuno Gama, outdoor and 78 models, some non-professional is very accustomed to the “walk street” rather than the catwalk.

a fashion show has not always been so fast and format for photography and video. “In the 1980s, it was all choreographed. The own mannequins were different, there were courses of mannequins where they were taught how to take turns, how to stop, whether it was whole turn, and pose. There were rehearsals in the morning the night before events like this. Today is different”, he affirms.

“in the past people went to see a show, now you must be faster”. With fashion shows more or less quick, more or less show the ModaLisboa fashion week ends this Sunday with live music in the parade of Louis Carvalho.
