After the Mediterranean Diet and the Fado, now was the SING ALENTEJANO UNESCO, intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
In fact, and I think also just right last day November 27, 2014, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, was given the final step to be consecrated by unanimity of the jury, the fair recognition of cultural Sing Alentejo not only as Portuguese heritage, but as cultural and intangible heritage of humanity. It is a fitting recognition for Alentejo people, it comes to all lovers of the Portuguese ethnographic / musical culture.
Sing Alentejo is a traditional genre of Alentejo. The sing was never the only expression of traditional music in Alentejo, but is closer to that of the High Alentejo. With sing always coexisted instrumental forms of music with adaptation of parts between different genres.
Sing Alentejo was an informal, spontaneous demonstration that occurred in the field. Marks a slow movement, rhythm, cadence work to journeyman, in pa rticular crops that most characterized the Alentejo agriculture – the harvest, weeding and harvesting olives. These events currently translate up by a high cultural advancement of which stresses the high quality that the sing if alcandorou. The following is better characterization, namely:
Features:
It’s a choir, which combines a spot alone and a choir, with a high filling breaks and shooting the verses. The corner invariably begins with a dot giving the leaves, giving way to the top and then intervening in the choir taking part and the high point. Finished the verses, the point can start with a new cue, followed by the same set of stanzas. This cycle is repeated the number of times that the participants wish. This repetitive feature, as well as the slow progress and plenty of breaks contribute to the monotonous nature of sing
History:.
In the sing survive extinct Greek modes both in classical music as popular in European, which are re stricted to higher and lower modes. This Greek face of the corner can come either of Gregorian chant as the Arab culture, although some musicologists are unaware sing in a much more primitive aspects, pre-Christian and possibly even pre-Roman.
Formerly the sing accompanied both the sexes in the farming work. Public was also sing in male leisure time and libation, is quietly, either in route in said arruadas. Public was still the most solemn sing religious occasions. Another sing existed in the domestic environment, where it was played mainly by women and in which you participate boys
See:.
After the Second World War, the progressive mechanization of farming, the generalization of radio and television, as well as the massive rural exodus caused the decline of the genre. Today sing survives in formalized groups who grow it, but have no spontaneity of old, but merely to recapitulate them in testing the known repertoire of memory, often without any written r ecord or sound and has no creative action.
Although they are these groups and their manifestation at parties, meetings and contests the guardians of tradition, in many cases progresses in them the said removal of the inclusion in the repertoire of strange parts to sing, instrumentation and tampering with traditional pieces in a more popular direction , especially the right deviation to fado, a revival trend of this type that aims to make it more garish.
Natural Corsica, Giacometti settled in Portugal and was responsible for music collections across the country, including with the composer Fernando Lopes-Graça (“Anthology of Portuguese Regional Music” and “Portuguese Popular Songbook”) and in particular in the regions of Alentejo and Beira Baixa, having made the documentary series “People singing” with the director Alfredo Military (RTP, c.1970-72).
Of the numerous Alentejo sing groups among its most important public p erformances include shows up in all regions of Alentejo and Lisbon, but also all over the country, particularly in the Jeronimos Monastery, the Belém Cultural Centre, the Grand Auditorium of the Gulbenkian, or at Lisbon and Estoril Casino.
At the international level has acted in the most prestigious concert halls around the world where they live and work large emigrant communities portugueses- Canada, United States, Switzerland, Luxembourg and France, among others.
All the groups that are responsible for keeping alive the flame Sing ends, carry the soul of a people and the pride of the Alentejo. It is effectively the power of the people and the charm of poetry.
Arguably, all groups are the expression of a huge increase in Portuguese culture, specifically practiced in the Alentejo. . I can only congratulate all those who made the Alentejo Sing contribute to magnify Portugal
I feel like singing: “.. At four in the morning the bird sang … ;…”
