On the second night of Jazz in August 2015, Michael Mantler ‘s Jazz Composer’ s Update with the Jazz Orchestra of Matosinhos, takes the stage timelessness of topics originally recorded forty-seven, then with the Jazz Composer ‘s Orchestra, founded in 1968 by Michael Mantler and Carla Bley and had as soloists (only … and amaze yourself !!!) Don Cherry, Cecil Taylor, Roswell Rudd, Pharoah Sanders, Gato Barbieri, Larry Coryell, and Barry Guy.
Later, in 2014, Mantler (American by birth and Austrian by choice) took up the idea, changed his name to Michael Mantler ‘s Jazz Composer’ s Update and also invited the Austrian Nouvelle Cuisine Orchestra to record an album that was released last year on the ECM label.
In this visit to Portugal, Michael Mantler brings the core quintet in training and will then stage as fellow sixteen musicians from Jazz Orchestra Matosinhos, in what promises to be one of the most curious nights Edition 2015 Jazz in August.
On Sunday, always at nine-thirty, the official language is once again the Swede with saxophonist Mats Gustafsson (which opened this edition of Jazz in August to lead the Fire! Orchestra) to lead the quintet Swedish Azz. No, not “crow” is anyway:. AZZ
