With forty years of history, millions of records sold and more money billed dozens of other artists combined, Iron Maiden could have become one of those arrogant bands in and out of a concert without trying to please the public. They could therefore no longer have anything to prove to anyone. But do not, that say the nearly 18,000 fans on Monday were the MEO Arena in Lisbon to see them.
Three years after the last performance, the British band came to present ” the Book of Souls “, the latest album released in September last year, and left the stage and went: heavy metal legends. Good mood and communicative, the British sextet ended the concert with the audience to ask one or two issues, but with the accomplishment.
The alignment prepared for the two hours we were on stage was balanced, mixing great classics of the band with more recent issues, in order to present “the Book of Souls”, without forgetting the fans who follow them for years.
“If Eternity Should Fail” and “Speed of Light “both the new album, gave the starting shot. Still little known to the public – who still sing the fear, and bet on the choruses without venturing much the rest of the letters – prepared the ears of the audience for what was yet to come. This was followed by the first intervention of several, vocalist Bruce Dickinson announced that “Children of the Damned,” a song released when “many of those here were not yet born” – “we’re old,” he added with a laugh. Here the mood already was another, but still far from the enthusiasm shown towards the end (since there will).
Enthusiasm, say, did not miss all the elements of the band, especially Bruce Dickinson that has not stopped one minute during the entire performance. Incidentally, the singer was keen to change clothes several times to match the setting, which was changing almost from song to song, identifying the album that part (sometimes got the feeling that we were in a musical authentic). It is worth noting the entry into Dickinson stage to play “The Trooper.”: The singer filed a UK flag on his shoulder, representing almost a living the single cover replica released in 1983
Flag this that was not the only view tonight at MEO Arena. The day after the victory of the national soccer team in the European Championship, were many Portuguese flags among the public, as well as scarves and sweaters regarding the team of fives. Bruce Dickinson still walked with one of these scarves and bassist Steve Harris would eventually work with a dressed selection of t-shirt already in the final stretch of the concert. The chants of support for Portugal, in turn, were a constant during the breaks between subjects from the beginning, and the singer made several references to Sunday’s game.
Football aside, “The Trooper” was the first truly high point of the night. The first chords, the audience immediately identified the issue that there was and started to jump. From then on would always be growing, with “Powerslave” to start again the feet of the audience floor. The calm only returned to MEO Arena, incidentally, for “Death or Glory” and “The Book of Souls”, the last themes that played the new album.
After a brief pause, followed by a true “burst” successes of the band, which only stopped at the end of the concert: “Hallowed Be Thy Name”, “Fear of the Dark” – here but the great peak of the evening – “Iron Maiden” and “the Number of the Beast “.
After this classic 1982, Dickinson made that it would be a real departure from the band. He looked around and identified the countries of the various flags that were seen in the audience. Proved to be happy for the music of Iron Maiden able to join various cultures in the same room, thanked all those present for being there, but above all “to be as they are.” Words that entry would serve to “Blood Brothers” (Blood Brothers, in free translation), which, in turn, preceded “Wasted Years”, the last of the night.
Thousands of people were facing the stage waiting for the band returned to play another theme says a lot about the concert, but also about the style of music that the group represents. The heavy metal remains in good health, Iron Maiden say that.
