David Lovering is not sure of the numbers but has the stories in memory. In an interview before the concert at the NOS Alive (Thursday), the drummer says the separation saved the Pixies.
Between 1986 and early 1993 were the perfect indie band: to make songs to the mainstream margin but without leaving out those who hear. I love to be a drummer. And you can pay the bills. Of course, there was that time in life when I became an illusionist.

That’s right. I thought there was time to do something else. But it is very difficult to live it. If you think being a musician is complicated, try to be magical.

After 12 years, when we returned in 2014, everything was different, the world was not the same, the small world of Pixies was much higher. If we had stayed together none of this would have happened. So I’m glad to have done things as we did. Even though at the time the meeting seemed impossible to me.
Why?
We parted in 1992 and was certain that the Pixies had ended completely. There was very tired, some egos occupy extra space, everything was ready for a different life.

When did the chance to meet, just said yes or had to think about it?
course I said yes. They were the Pixies, I did not have to think too much about it. Soon after the separation, I continued to play with other musicians, other bands, things in the studio. And I gave up. I stopped completely. Because none of it satisfied me, nothing could replace what they had experienced with the Pixies, I realized that the band was irreplaceable. I even stopped playing drums, maybe for about nine years, something like that. When the choice came, we return to play together or not, it was too easy to accept.
New albums, new tours, it is also so good, fun and engaging as it was?
I still like it a lot. When we were younger, all this had a greater sense of adventure, challenge, was a permanent unknown, into a van with the tools and run America. It could be the worst club in the world that was still wonderful. Now, after so many years, between concerts and festivals, the only thing different is that we are not so naive and we know what to expect from some situations. I play drums and people come to see. Have you seen this well? It is difficult for other people to understand how this is a luck. Maybe it’s all the different food …
In the food?
Yes, the meals. I always try to sample local food, sites where step. It is one of the best things now, almost to the level of play on stage.

How do you win new fans continuously?
