Brazilian organization awarded in Portugal – Fatima Mission

Brazil’s Amazonas Sustainable Foundation will receive from the hands of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal, the Calouste Gulbenkian Prize 2016, worth 250,000 euros. The prize-giving ceremony takes place this Wednesday, July 20, at the Amphitheatre Outdoor Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (FCG) in Lisbon and features a concert by the Gulbenkian Orchestra.

The Amazonas Foundation sustainable is a non-governmental non-profit organization that works to “reduce deforestation, preserve biodiversity contributing to improve the quality of life” of the riverine communities of Amazonas State, explains the FCG in a statement.

“the funds [this award] will be allocated to programs and projects developed with the hundreds of communities”, indicates Virgílio Viana, director general of the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation. The prize award jury was chaired by Jorge Sampaio, former President of Portugal.
