” In the morning September 9, 2004, the experienced producer of CBS News, Mary Mapes believes he has every reason to feel proud of a well done job journalist. At the end of the day, Mary Mapes, CBS News and respected pivot Dan Rather are under enormous scrutiny. Last night, the ’60 Minutes II ‘aired a report of an investigation, produced by Mary Mapes and reported by Dan Rather, indicating the revelation of new evidence that would prove that President George W. Bush had managed to avoid fulfilling military service between 1968 and 1974. the piece stated that George W. Bush had not only exploited family connections and political privileges to avoid the Vietnam War and joining the Texas Air National Guard, as had failed for many months the obligation more its basic function: to appear at the base. Mary Mapes and his team of researchers in a fight against time, sought eyewitnesses and new documents to build the case and believed that the story was solid. However, military service of George W. Bush is no longer the focus of media and public scrutiny. Instead, it was the ’60 Minutes’ program, Mary Mapes and Dan Rather have been called into question: the investigation into the supporting documents were denounced as forged and the program team was shoddy journalism accused or, worse, of fraud. Mary Mapes would eventually lose his job and reputation. Dan Rather resigned from the post of pivot. How is that attention just focused on journalists who questioned the official version of history? How do typefaces or line breaks have become more important to the national discourse of the doubt as to the lack of military compliance with the President ‘
